MSHA: A Pictorial Walk Through The 20th Century "Honoring the U.S. Miner"

This site is dedicated to the men and women who gave their lives so our country could be energy independent.  This site is a collection of photographs, essays and links honoring coal miners from around the world.

Coal Miners are threatened by environmentalists and government regulations.  To them, the rest of America and the World we respond simply "We are not the Enemy" Maybe one day they will come to realize how important coal has been to our economy and our standard of living, and then again maybe not........

Only time will tell what happens, in the meantime, this site is for every man and woman who appreciated a coal miner.

The Coal Industry is facing many challenges.  How it will survive is yet to be determine.  One thing is certain, it will be different and we are losing fine men to unemployment every day.

This web site is an effort to pay tribute to those men, past and present.  But especially to those presently.

If you have any tributes, pictures, stories, etc. that you would like to submit to this site please send them to me at coalinfo@aol.com and I will attempt to incorporate them as soon as I can.  Please bear with me as I develop this site.

Thank you.

I would also like to express a special thanks to the men of Silver Creek Mine outside of Richlands, Virginia.  They allowed me to photograph them in their working environment.  I was able to move among them and see what they face every day.   They are a highly skilled, professional workforce that I consider to be the very best workers in the world, above or below ground.  They work together to mine thousands of tons of coal a week. They have built miles of tunnels and roadways.   They have perform admirably in an uncertain future. I have a new appreciation for them and the job they do.
